In our quest to lending support in tackling the current global ill, members of Netlink Environmental Conservation Organization, Environmental Conservation Club and Environmental Conservation Volunteer held an online webinar zoom meeting on 25th March, 2020.
There is no gain saying that Coronavirus has claimed thousands of lives and the fate of hundreds of thousands are yet to be determined. It is against this backdrop that members of NECOR/ECC/ECV have come out with innovative and workable ideas as precautionary and preventive measures.
Brief Information on CORONAVIRUSES
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can be categorised into two
A. Human coronaviruses: These are the most common coronaviruses. Typically associated with mild illnesses, similar to the common cold.
B. Animal coronaviruses: These cause illness in animals and can infect people. Two of these animal coronaviruses have been identified.
These are the:
1. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS CoV)
2. Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus ( MERS CoV)
COVID-19 is a new Coronavirus that has not been previously identified in human.
Symptoms of infection of COVID-19 have included:
1. Cough
2. Fever
3. Difficulty breathing
4. Pneumonia in both lungs
The suggested preventive strategies are categorised into 3


1.Personal hygiene: Regular washing of hands; minimizing close human contact or maintaining social distance; abstaining from public and social gatherings;

Avoid touching of face, picking of nose or eating of nail; ensure wearing of clean dress; and washing of legs before entrance.

2. Environmental hygiene: Our surrounding should be kept clean,use disinfectant in your home, local sanitizers.

To this effect the readily available disinfectant have been suggested: use of dry leave of oregano; bay leave; eucalyptus;

Onion, the onion should be rub on the palm in the absence of sanitizers, you can eat slices of fresh onion,you can cut into two and place at the corner of your room to serve as antibacterial or viral,

Mint leave has a fresh mint aroma, peppermint oil which is like natural pesticide, it smells discourage rats and insects,

This also aids breathing and reduce effect caused by nausea.

Food hygiene: Ensure good selection of food commodities in the market,

Ensure proper and adequate cooking process or methods for food.

Regular drinking of warm water, hot pepper soup, ensure that our food is warm before eating and not too cold.

1. It was opined that in view of the declaration by President Trump on the consumption of chloroquine to cure COVID-19, the efficacy of
Morinda lucida (Yoruba local name is Oruwo) and
Azadirachta indica ( local name Dongoyaro leave) have been suggested as possible alternative . This become more effective when combine with Mormodica charantia (yoruba local name is Ejirin) to serve as antibiotic
2. It was reported that regular consumption of food that are alkaline in nature could equally serve as precautionary measure. Consumption of fruit such as Tangerine, Orange, Lemon, Pineapple, Mango e.t.c will boost the Vitamin C levels of humans.
